I am allergic to the term “just make it look pretty.”
I am a seasoned creative leader with a master’s degree in business management and over 15 years of experience building brands and leading teams across multiple industries.
Every day I aim to close the gap between business and creative objectives by showcasing the multi-faceted way that creatives define, communicate, and grow the value of a business.
And throughout everything I do, I look for opportunities to mentor talent and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion opportunities in the workplace and surrounding communities.
But beyond all that…
I believe in authenticity across the board from branding to leadership.
I am a “fixer” meaning I am passionate about solving any sized problem and fixing things that are broken.
I am a lifelong learner, soaking up any lecture, book, podcast, and conference that I can find. I will never know it all.
I LOVE project management software because I am obsessed with organization and process efficiency.
I believe that data and insights are the peanut butter to the creative jelly.
I'm a little bit city and a little bit country.
I believe that fonts and colors only matter if the strategy is strong.
I believe in clarity and consistency first and foremost.
I will always question the boundaries and “the way things have always been done.”
I lead with empathy above all else.
I believe that work and life have to involve play and fun.
Looking back…
I graduated from the University of Delaware with a BFA in Visual Communications and a concentration in both Advertising and Graphic Design. In 2018, I completed Pratt Institute's Masters of Design Management program, which is often described as "business school for creatives." The program gives designers a seat at the decision-making table, and places a strong emphasis on management. It aims to bridge the gap between design teams and other groups within an organization that are traditionally business-oriented. The classes—from law to accounting to strategic technology to international business—are united by an underlying theme: Building sustainable businesses that are not only successful for the long term, but contribute positively to the environment, the employees, and the consumers or clients.
Over the course of my career, I've worked in a variety of industries as a Graphic Designer at a small entertainment & cosmetic company, a Junior Art Director at a large advertising agency, a Lead Designer at Bette Midler's environmental non-profit, a Senior Creative Lead at Quidsi (Amazon), an Art Director at Viacom, and as a Global Creative Director at Yext, a B2B software company. This wide range of experiences and industries has shaped me into the multi-faceted designer, manager, collaborator, and creative strategist that I am today.
And just for fun...
OUTSIDE OF DESIGN, I LOVE
Sushi, traveling, reading, photography, my dog, live music, bodies of water, snowboarding, comedy shows, animals (except snakes. no thanks), exploring the uniqueness and curiosities of NYC, and being outside whenever and however I possibly can be.
SOME PEOPLE DON'T KNOW
I was a team gold medalist at the “Junior Olympics” (NAYRC) in Eventing. I rode horses competitively for over 21 years before moving to New York City to pursue a career in the creative industry. Both of my parents were designers—my genes were set from the start.
I SECRETLY LOVE
Google sheets and country music.
I GET MY INSPIRATION FROM
Traveling, blogs, constant learning and reading different perspectives, New York City, other creatives and leaders, exploring, trying new things, and playing.
ROLE MODELS INCLUDE
Supportive female leaders, people who take risks, people who do things differently, my family, my friends, my dog, and people who defy expectations.
MY NURSERY SCHOOL TEACHER SAID
That I am “quite a creative leader,” after I got the entire class to take off their shoes and socks and run around the playground barefoot. I still believe that playing is an essential part of life, creativity, and success.
